Thesis Title: comparison of algebraic practices in medieval China and India
About
Teacher of philosophy and history of sciences, also graduated in Sanskrit and Chinese, actually in joint Ph.D between Paris VII Diderot and National Taiwan Normal University in mathematics and history of sciences:
- Publishing and translating critical editions of Mathematical treatises written in Chinese (Yigu yanduan by Li Ye) and Sanskrit (Bijaganitavatamsa by Narayana).
- Understanding practices of algebra, geometrical diagrams, tabular presentations of polynomials and equations and their interactions with discourse by using comparative method.
- Studying evolutions of mathematical writings and diversity of algebraic procedures from XI to XVIII° Centuries in China and India.
The purpose is to characterize different traditions of thinking the unknown.
Also:
- Interest in Ethno-mathematics in Formosan, Hakka and Minnan languages.
-Interest in cognitive psychology applied to mathematics.
